Week 31's photo of the week is a little different from normal. It's actually a photo of a drawing. One Sunday 5th August I went along to the Bellarine Kids Expo, here in Barwon Heads, Victoria, and held my first ever market stall! As you could imagine, there were a lot of nerves and sleepless nights involved, but the day was a huge success and loads of fun. The lead up to the Expo was very busy for me and I had my husband quite involved in helping me. Our lounge room was set up as a market stall for the week before hand and each of my three daughters certainly made their opinions known!!

On the morning of the Expo, as I was rushing around getting ready and finalising things, my 5 year old, Molly, presented me with a drawing. It wasn't just any drawing - it was an exact replica of my market stall (the one that had been set up in the lounge room for the past week!). As Molly gave it to me, it certainly made me stop and appreciate the fact that my first market also affected my kids, and their encouragement was perhaps the loudest and most supportive!

Here is the gorgeous drawing that now takes pride of place above my desk:

I love how Molly even added a sun in the picture (a standard for all of her drawings!) even though it was an indoor Expo! The detail she included amazes me though - my Eiffel Tower prop on a vintage suitcase, the green shabby chic chair, Maggie my mannequin - it's spot on! I would love to know where those pink high heels are in my wardrobe too :)

Week 32

Last week it was my nephews birthday. He lives in London so we don't get to see him that often, but we still love to celebrate the birthday's of all of our nieces and nephews who we don't get to see - my girls have 5 cousins and 3 of them live overseas! So on Lachie's birthday we baked him a cake and decorated it with smarties in the shape of an 'L'. Just as I was about to take this photo of the girls with Lachie's cake, little Miss Ruby decided to stick her finger in it! Perfect!!

Lucky for us it still tasted great!

Enjoy,

Things are busy at Whale Spout HQ at the moment, with our first market stall being held this Sunday, 5th August at the Bellarine Kids Expo (13th Beach Golf Course, Barwon Heads, VIC). We've been busily setting up market stalls in the lounge room, madly sewing, putting together our first accessories line (more to come later...) and generally getting organised!

However, I still had time to take some photos :)

Week 29's favourite photo is little Miss Ruby cuddling up to her Daddy on a sunny winter's afternoon.

Week 30's favourite photo is Grace and Ruby having a giggle together, I especially love the look on Grace's face. This photo means a lot to me as Grace and Ruby had never really paid much attention to each other until Molly started school this year, and these two were left to themselves at home without the guidance (ahem... read: bossiness!) of their big sister. I've loved watching their relationship develop as they've gotten to know each better and now play together quite easily, not to mention get up to lots of mischief together! It's a very sweet thing, the relationship that sisters have!

Enjoy,

Last week was the second and final week of school holidays in Victoria and signified the end of lazy mornings, staying in PJ's until past 8am (!) and having no 'we should have left by now' thoughts! As it is winter, we had some very cold and wet days, so the kids had to entertain themselves inside a lot of the time. Of course, they loved doing one of their favourite things... building a cubby house under our dining table!

I snapped this photo while having morning tea with the girls in their cubby - complete with tea set, dolls, teddy bears, and iced teddy bear biscuits!

I really love the way the two little ones, Grace and Ruby, are watching their big sister carefully. Grace and Ruby loved having Molly home for two weeks and I had to deal with a very sad Grace on Monday morning when Molly went back to school - I heard lots of 'I miss Molly's' all day!

Enjoy,

Last week, my husband and I experienced three nights of a very quiet, peaceful and child-free home.  Our three little girls went to their Grandparents house for a little holiday, leaving hubby and I to experience life without children for a few days.

In that time, I didn't cook once, I had a bath (by myself - bonus!), we ate out twice, we hardly looked at our watches, hubby played golf one day and went mountain bike riding the next, and we slept... ALL NIGHT LONG! I also made the most of the girls being out of the house and thoroughly cleaned their bedrooms, washed all their bed linen, cleaned out their wardrobes and their toyroom. I also 'cleaned out' 6 months worth of artwork...

I had intended on doing a lot of sewing but that took second place behind 'operation: getting the house in order'!

However, we did miss the girls. A lot. Our house without children is just plain weird. We moved into this house just three weeks before baby numer 2 was born, so we've never known it without kids! One thing I did notice for the first time is that I could hear our dog snoring at night - and she sleeps in the garage!

So, 3 nights later we drove up to Ballarat to pick up the girls. On the way in the car I read a book - I couldn't remember the last time I did that! We were barely in the front door before we were barrelled over by 3 very excited girls. They had a great time with Nanna and Pa, but I was so glad to have them back.

That night, back at home, after their bath and before bed my hubby took this photo of me and my girls having cuddles on the couch...

Enjoy,

Eeekk!! We're halfway through the year! Less than 6 months until Christmas! Double eeekk!

Ok, time to 'keep calm and carry on'. Plenty of time to be prepared for Christmas. Breathe...

Last week, on the last night of term 2, we had a fairly monumental occasion in our family. Molly, our 5 year old, performed in her first dance concert! It was the full experience - 6 months of dancing practice, a rehearsal the week before, costume, make-up, hair styled... yes, the FULL experience!

Despite my rather large gripes about the requirements of make-up and styled hair (I was even advised to straighten her hair before styling it... she's 5!!!), and my even larger protests about her costume (which I would describe as 'skimpy' while the dance company described it as 'thematic'), I swallowed my issues (and a few morals) and became the mother who just wanted her daughter to have fun.

To be honest, the styling part of the night was probably the most exciting for Molly. She eagerly watched me putting her make-up on and styling her hair. Her excitement was heavily laced by exhaustion and tiredness, and this wasn't helped by her class not performing until 8.45 pm (yes, that's right, a solid hour after her normal bedtime!). Maybe you can see a few of my other gripes coming through here, but really I just tried to remember that this was Molly's night.

And it was. Check out my baby girl...

Molly's class danced to 'Kung Fu Fighting' and she did a fabulous job! We are so proud of her - she was up on stage in front of 480 people and she didn't freak out!! We couldn't be any more proud. Although, I have to admit that I am very happy that she has decided to forgo dance in favour of gymnastics next term :).

Enjoy,

Winter has hit the southern states of Australia with a rather large thud, and I'm already dreaming of warm summer days on the beach. Actually, I'd be happy with some mild winter days where the temperature might make it to 16 degrees, along with some sunshine!

Last week we had some bitterly cold and very wet days and were home-bound way too much for my liking. So, I gave in to my little ones and gave them free reign one day in my wardrobe - what else is there to do on a wet and cold day than dress up in Mum's boots?!?

Grace and Ruby managed to stomp around in the boots for a good half an hour before they got bored and onto their next adventure!!

Enjoy,

I've done it again, I know! Two photos in the one week... better late than never!

My photo for Week 23 is just adorable (if I do say so myself :)). My 5 year old, Molly, went on a day trip to Melbourne with my Mum (her Shizzie) to see the musical 'Annie'. It was Molly's first musical and first big day trip with Shizzie so there was lots of excitement leading up to it. At the end of the day, when Mum dropped her home, all Molly could talk about was the lolly shop they had found in the Block Arcade in Melbourne's CBD. They watched the lolly 'makers' make the lollies, and then Shizzie let Molly choose a lollipop for herself, and her 2 sisters.

Of course, Molly enjoyed Annie too, but that lolly shop was all she talked about for days!

This photo was taken the next day when they all had their lollipops - it was little Ruby's first ever lollipop, and she was like the cat that had got the cream! Check out the cheeky pose...

Week 24's photo was taken last night during the 'Dancing With the Stars' finale on TV. My girls are huge fans of 'the dance show' and ask almost every night if it's on. Not only do they enjoy the actual dancing, they love watching the judges scores - it's all about number recognition apparently!

Last night my husband and I had been out of the loungeroom for a minute, and walked back in to find Molly and Grace twirling and spinning around the floor, like an actual dancing couple - it was gorgeous!

You've got to love these moments when they happen all by themselves :)

Enjoy,

Yes, I was very slack last week. I won't make any excuses, I had great intentions of updating my photo of the week many times... it just never happened. Oops :(

So, this is Week 21 - my three girls sitting outside on a cold late autumn morning, eating apples, after a morning spent playing in the backyard. Their Dad was setting our outside fireplace for a fire to have lunch by. We got lunch all organised, sat down and started lunch, and the rain started :(. Off we went inside and watched the fire burn through the window!

Week 22 is a lovely Daddy/daughter moment with my husband and Ruby. All the girls were playing in our sunroom when Ruby decided she wanted to copy her big sisters doing somersaults... this was the result, not quite resulting in a somersault but lots of fun anyhow. I love the excitement on her face :).

I promise I won't be so slow next week!

Ahhh, the soft afternoon sunlight, a reflective look on my babies face, a super-girl cape on her back and a bit of help from Instagram...

Just divine. Love you Rubes xx.

Considering I attended a seminar on photography this week, this photo is an absolute failure! But, it is pretty hard to capture three little girls dancing around the house on an iPhone. I'm actually thrilled with this photo - it shows my baby, old enough to happily play with her sisters and be treated as an equal by them. You can SEE how much fun she's having - check out that smile!

So, it's not in focus, it's VERY blurry, and I over-brightened it using the iPhone app 'Magichour'. But isn't she having FUN?!?

Enjoy,

Kate x
